Tag Airlines takes AIFA into consideration to add Mexico City to its destinations; He also wants to reach the beaches of Oaxaca
Tag Airlines, which currently operates routes from Guatemala to four cities in the Mexican southeast, is planning to renew and expand the fleet with which it operates its flights to the country. With new aircraft and greater capacity, the company is considering adding Mexico City to its destinations, for which it is analyzing the Felipe Ángeles (AIFA), Mexico City (AICM) and Toluca international airports.
In its plan to expand operations in Mexico, where it already has activity in terminals in Cancun, Mérida, Oaxaca and Tuxtla, Tag Airlines is also contemplating the tourist destinations of Huatulco and Puerto Escondido, in Oaxaca, and Chetumal, in Quintana Roo. Likewise, the entities of Campeche, Tabasco and Querétaro are in the crosshairs of the Guatemalan company.
Regarding a possible arrival at AIFA, the airline will define in the third or fourth quarter of this year if it begins to carry out operations there or not, according to Julio Gamero, general director of the firm. In an interview, he said that a series of variables are taken into account to define the new air terminals that will add to the points where they operate.
“Traffic, market, potential connections are analyzed, a kind of variables are analyzed and the consumer variable is also important,” Gamero explained.
“AIFA is ultimately an airport and an infrastructure that can be used.” The Tag Airlines executive added that AIFA may be viable in the eyes of an international airline to have a presence in the metropolitan airport system.
