Prada dominated the fashion conversation in the fourth quarter of 2022, leading it to overtake Gucci’s spot to be named the world’s hottest brand for the first time, according to the latest report of the Lyst Index.
The fashion platform’s quarterly ranking of the most sought-after brands and products considers Lyst shoppers’ behavior, such as product views, social media mentions, and engagement statistics globally over three months. Over 200 million consumers use the Lyst annually.
Prada claims spot
Searches for the Italian luxury brand surged 37% in the quarter, which saw the launch of its first fine jewelry collection made of recycled gold, the Lyst report showed. It also named 2022’s top-earning TikToker Charli D’Amelio the face of the house’s sportswear-focused FW22 line Linea Rossa and appointed Andrea Guerra as the Group’s CEO.
Moncler came in third, soaring 14 spots up on the ranking. Bottega Veneta also climbed five spots to land sixth after fifth place Valentino.
Searches for Ugg‘s $140 ultra mini boots skyrocketed 82%, securing a spot as the 17th hottest brand in the fourth quarter. Coach climbed to land in 19th place, on the back of the increasing demand for its more moderately priced handbags, which have been popular picks among Gen Z shoppers.
Dolce & Gabbana and Saint Laurent also jumped upwards to land in the top 10, the fashion technology company and shopping app further revealed in its quarterly report.
Balenciaga dropped seven places to land 11th position on the hottest brands ranking. This comes after a rocky quarter, which saw the label sever ties with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, last October after he engaged in increasingly controversial behavior and abusive comments. The French-owned fashion house was also in the hot seat following its controversial ads posted on its social media profiles from its holiday advertisement campaign.
Gucci’s drop also comes amid news that its creative director Alessandro Michele would be departing the Italian brand after eight years.
Last quarter, Fendi, Diesel and Louis Vuitton were ranked as the seventh, eighth and ninth most-wanted brands, respectively. But the fourth quarter saw the luxury brands down places to land in the top 20.
Most wanted products
Worn by the likes of Bella Hadid, Zoë Kravitz, and Sydney Sweeney, Saint Laurent’s Icare bag is the most wanted product in the fourth quarter. Findings of the world’s hottest products were based on more than 8 million of items by page views, interactions, among other factors on the Lyst app.
Searches for the jumbo quilted bag surged 46%. It also caused a halo effect trend for the bag category, causing a 55% climb in searches for totes in the quarter, the Lyst said.
Prada’s logo slingbacks was crowned the second most sought-after product followed by Dr. Martens Leonore’s Chelsea boot.
16Arlington’s Solaria dress, seen on celebrities Olivia Wilde, Paloma Elsesser and Hailey Bieber, became a favorite in the quarter as shoppers embraced the return of party dressing over the holiday season.
Bottega Veneta’s Sardine bag and Acne Studios’ mohair checked scarf were the quarter’s fifth and sixth most wanted products. Spanish luxury fashion house Loewe won the attention of consumers as it was the seventh hottest product while its padded bomber jacket won the same ranking in the quarter.
